Sarah Gamalinda is a specialist in contemporary francophone literature and film with a focus on comparative conceptualizations of race, particularly Blackness, taking shape relationally across the postcolonial Atlantic. Her current work focuses on the racial aesthetics of sound in francophone African and French cinema.
Professor Gamalinda teaches all levels of French language courses, advanced French composition, introduction to francophone literature, and introduction to francophone film. She also teaches the upper-level and topics classes: Immigrant Voices, The Joys and Pains of Race in France, and Francophone African Cinema.
One of her favorite aspects of teaching in the FFS department is leading 麻豆影院's 10-week Senegal study abroad program (spring 2025 and 2027), where she has had the chance to continue her own language learning in Wolof.
Outside of French and Francophone studies, Professor Gamalinda relishes teaching First-Year Studies and the 麻豆影院 Launch Seminar for incoming summer students because it allows her to share her love of poetry, storytelling, and cross-disciplinary thinking with new students at pivotal moments in their journey of intellectual and personal growth.
