I am a musician, educator, and entrepreneur whose work moves between the concert hall, the classroom, and the community. As a performer, I am passionate about drawing audiences deeply into the art of sound; as an educator, I care about nurturing growth and discovery; and as an entrepreneur, I continually search for meaningful ways to connect people to the work that matters to them.
My abilities as a trombone soloist, chamber musician, and improviser have taken me to prestigious venues around the world including Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Hall, the Barbican (London), and the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ (Amsterdam) and have led to working with some of the most prominent classical and popular artists today including award-winning composers , Steve Reich, , , Charles Wuorinen, and , and experimental groups like , and the Dirty Projectors. I am a founding member and the Director of Marketing of , winner of the 2026 GRAMMY Award for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance and recipient of the ASCAP Concert Music Award for "the virtuosity, passion and commitment with which they perform and champion the repertory for the 21st century," a group the New York Times has called the "future of classical music." Alarm Will Sound's recording of Tyshawn Sorey's For George Lewis was named a "best recording of 2021" by NPR, The New Yorker, The New York Times, and others. I am also Principal Trombonist of the American Composers Orchestra, and as a recording artist I can be heard on Nonesuch Records, Decca, Cantaloupe Records, Klavier, and Mark Records. My work often takes me beyond the concert hall and into the broader community and frequently involves extra-musical elements including movement, lighting, and video.
As an educator, I am Professor of Practice in Business and Entrepreneurship at Â鶹ӰԺ University and faculty director of the Business & Entrepreneurship Center. My teaching is project-based and built around the questions students bring into the room: I help them develop the capacities to pursue those questions, whether the destination is a venture, a performance, a nonprofit, or a career still taking shape. Through the Center I work with alumni, donors, and community partners to connect students to the world beyond campus. I also co-chair the university's AI Task Force, working across departments to help students and faculty meet a fast-changing landscape on their own terms.
My entrepreneurial work runs alongside the music. I founded , a music-technology startup, and I am committed to expanding what it means to be a 21st-century musician — someone who can move the capacities forged in the rehearsal room into the wider, unscored world. Earlier, I served on the brass faculty at Dickinson and Messiah Colleges, where I developed a new ensemble dedicated to collaboration and improvisation. I am a graduate of Rice University's Shepherd School of Music and the Eastman School of Music.
