Henry Parks ’22 originally found �鶹ӰԺ by looking for highly regarded professors, and quickly noticed the tuba/euphonium professor, Marty Erickson. After having a lesson, it wasn’t long before Henry decided to apply. Coming into college, Henry knew his strengths lay in ecology and music, however he was unsure of where to take this in the future. He says it was the busy nature of �鶹ӰԺ’s community that allowed him to discover what paths were possible for him.

“We all work insanely hard during the week, but my success academically can be directly linked to the campus culture of looking out for each other and participation in close-knit social events with such a small student body.”

Henry, like so many others at �鶹ӰԺ, is grateful for the multitude of opportunities here on campus. In his time at �鶹ӰԺ, Henry has been proud to participate in the Baking and Cooking Club, as well as several ensembles including the �鶹ӰԺ University Wind Ensemble, �鶹ӰԺ Symphony Orchestra, New Music Ensemble, opera pit, Easter church services, multiple quiets, and even a Midwest regional tuba conference performance with the tuba studio.

He says, “I think the high level of musicianship and thought that goes into studio class and the studio ensemble is the reason why I have had so many great experiences and opportunities while at �鶹ӰԺ.”

After his time at �鶹ӰԺ, Henry hopes to pursue work in the environmental research/ restoration field before possibly heading to graduate school. Wherever he ends up, Henry plans on looking for tuba work and continuing to share his love for music with others.
